The Village of Caporciano

At an altitude of 974m above sea level, Caporciano has a population of approx 300 inhabitants. It is 34Km from the Regions Capital - L'Aquila. Half an hour from the Adriatic Coast and Rome is an hour and a half away.

The Village boasts some fine ancient churches - the largest of which being built upon a Roman Fort and its present day tower belonged to the Castle. Nearby Bominaco (2Km) also has two very fine Churches and a castle of ancient Benedictine foundation.

There is a Post Office and two eating places   (one within 15m of the Villa). Below in the Navelli Valley within a couple of miles are numerous shops / outlets and restaurants.

Although the area is of medieval origin, there are numerous archaeological reminders of Roman and other ancient peoples presence in the area.   The town's name is thought to come from 'Capo Giano" (literally "head of Janus". That is, the ancient Roman deity who could simultaneously see the past and the future)
